If you're of a certain age, and grew up in the '60s and '70s, chances are you encountered advertising or catalogs for the Frederick's of Hollywood lingerie brand, best known for the development of the push-up bra and their marketing that associated intimate apparel with confidence, glamour, and Hollywood allure. And to promote and sell their wares, they employed many artists and photographers over the years. But one unsung artist's work stood out amongst the others, that of Dorothy Kahn, whose art captured the style and vibe of the era like no other. This collection is pure, sexy nostalgia and reveals an artist whose works went mostly uncredited, but inspired generations of women to feel like Hollywood elite. It's a great addition to any pin-up or '70s art collection. ~Marty

Signed Sketchbooks

The Art of Jerry Ordway Signed
SIGNED! Foreword by Mike Carlin. Jerry Ordway is the "artist's artist." One of the definitive architects behind The Death of Superman, the master inker who bound the multiverse together in Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the creative force who gave the world The Power of Shazam! Now, for the first time ever, step inside the studio of an industry titan. This is The Art of Jerry Ordway, a premium, 100-page sketchbook bringing you closer than ever to the raw genius of a master craftsman. New Pain Productions, 2026....More.

Item Code: ARTJO
Soft Cover, 7x10, 96pg, b&w
$49.99

Jerry Ordway is another favorite artist of mine, going back to his days at DC Comics on their Superman line. He's responsible for one of my favorite covers for the PREVIEWS catalog, an image of the "returned from the dead" Superman, embossed and featuring both spot varnish and matte surfaces, printed all in black.

It was a striking cover for the image alone, the special effects merely enhanced the art. And he went on to so many more hit runs on series like Adventures of Superman, Infinity Inc., and the Batman '89 movie adaptation, among others. This sketchbook (signed by Ordway!) collects some of his finest pages and covers from across his long career, and includes some rare, never-before-seen art as well. Truly an "Artist's Artist," this one should not be missed! ~Marty

Nightmares of Halloween Past
Vintage Photographs from the Collection of Gary Baseman. A photo-filled celebration of Halloween in America from artist Gary Baseman. Recommended. As a child, Halloween was acclaimed artist Gary Baseman’s favorite holiday — an extension of his love of otherworldly monsters and characters on TV and film. In the 1990s, he started his collection of more than 2,000 dark, playful, surreal vintage photographs of people in masks and costumes. Gathered primarily at flea markets, these images, taken by unknown photographers, represent intimate tributes to Halloween and American legacy. This dark "family album" collects over 300 vintage photographs along with 15 of the author’s Halloween-inspired signature paintings. Insight Editions, 2026....More.

Item Code: NIGHPH
Hard Cover, 8x10, 288pg, b&w
$45.00 $40.00
Cartoonist and animator Gary Baseman is best known for his fez-wearing cartoon cat named "Toby", seen in many illustrations and as collectible art figures. He's also a big fan of Halloween, and has amassed a collection of over 2000 vintage photos of kids in costumes, most home made, which makes them all the more macabre and disturbing to view. Accompanied by Halloween-themed paintings by Baseman, this collection of mostly B&W photos from a bygone era is a fascinating and entertaining look to the past, that most certainly has a permanent spot in my collection. ~Marty

The Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons of the last century are some of the most entertaining animated shorts ever produced. Directed by the likes of Robert McKimson, Friz Freleng, Tex Avery and Chuck Jones, most have continued to be enjoyed by new generations of kids even today. One of the standout directors in the Warner Bros. Cartoon group was Bob Clampett who, from 1931-1946, made over 80 cartoons, and created Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Tweety Bird along the way. Clampett's daughter, Ruth Clampett, tells the story of her father's colorful career (which includes the creation of Beany and Cecil) with help from animation historian Darrell Van Citters. This fond remembrance is truly packed with rare art and photos, and should be in every animation fan's library. Highly Recommended! ~Marty

When I graduated from Monster comics to Superhero, one of the titles I gravitated to was Marvel Two-in-One, not only because of the solo spotlight on the FF's Ben Grimm, it was the art of John Byrne and George Pérez that brought me in. These were early years for both of them, but you could already see the brilliance in their artwork beginning to emerge. And we also get some great stories drawn by Jerry Bingham, Ron Wilson, and Mike Nasser. And inks by the great Joe Sinnott and Gene Day, too. The issues collected in this volume will always be some of my very favorites! ~Marty

The Crisis Companion
The definitive companion to one of the most influential comic book series ever published! By Kevin Miller. In 1985, DC Comics launched the most ambitious crossover event in comics history: Crisis on Infinite Earths. Four decades later, filmmaker and lifelong comic book fan Kevin Miller unpacks the tangled web of continuity, creators, and corporate pressures that gave rise to this multiverse-shattering epic. TwoMorrows, 2026....More.

Soft Cover, 8x11, 256pg, Text/Partial Color
$36.95

DC Comic continuity was always a little hard to follow, especially since they'd been building layers upon layers of comic book "geology" since the late 1930s. So when DC decided to "reset" their universe in 1985, it was a shocking but also exciting turn of events. Marv Wolfman and George Pérez lead the revision with the main series, while the rest of the DC titles and their creative teams shifted gears and played into the "big changes" to come. It was a monumental undertaking, and the folks at TwoMorrows have tried to bring us the last word in how it all came to be, and how it changed comics forever. If you were fortunate enough to live through the period it was published, you saw firsthand what occurred on a month-to-month basis. For us, and for those of you who were late to the game, their "Crisis Companion" will no doubt feature rare details that are new to us all, and reveal the story of this historic comics event from beginning to conclusion like never before. ~Marty

BIGGLES
High flying action & intrigue from the UK! From 1960-1962! Recommended. By Capt. W.E. Johns. Art by Ron Embleton & Mike Western. James Bigglesworth is a wartime air ace and peacetime Sergeant in the Special Air Police, known to his friends and some of his enemies as "Biggles." Biggles became one of the most enduring figures in children's fiction of the last century and was created in 1932 by former Royal Flying Corps pilot, Captain W.E. Johns, whose own life ““ which included being shot down and becoming a prisoner of war ““ was pretty colorful itself! Beautifully illustrated by Ron Embleton and Mike Western, this volume includes the complete run of full-color strips from the pages of Britain's Express Weekly and TV Express Weekly (1960-1962), presented for the first time in a deluxe premium hardcover collection. Book Palace, 2026....More.

Item Code: BIGGH
Hard Cover, 8x11, 108pg, Full Color
$48.00

Created by real-life aviator Captain W.E. Johns in 1932, the Biggles strip ran for many years in the UK, and was later revived in the pages of Britain's TV Express Weekly (1960-62). As illustrated by Ron Embleton and Mike Western, Biggles reminds me most of Doug Wildey's Jonny Quest, having a very similar color palette and visual pacing to the classic cartoon. If you like comics filled with action, intrigue, danger, and authentic depictions of vintage aircraft, be sure to check this one out! ~Marty
