MASTERS OF SPANISH COMIC BOOK ART
New printing. First published in 2017 and out of print for several years. Our Highest Recommendation. By David Roach. A celebration of the artists who revolutionized horror comics in the 1970s in Warren's Vampirella, Creepy, and Eerie. But much, much more: the first-ever comprehensive history of Spanish comic book art reveals their extraordinary success--in Spain, America, and around the world. 80 artists are examined, including legends like Esteban Maroto, Sanjulian, Segrelles, Jose Gonzalez, Jordi Bernet, Enric, Victor De La Fuente, and Jose Ortiz. 500 illustrations, half scanned directly from the original artwork! Moderate nudity & adult themes. Dynamite, 2022. Mature Readers. More

JOAQUIN SOROLLA Painter of Light
Back in Print. Recommended. One of the most beloved and appreciated artists of his day, Joaquin Sorolla (1863-1923) was a master of sunlight and beach scenes. In 1908, he was hailed as "the greatest living painter in the world" for his extraordinary technique and the pleasing nature of his subjects, rising to a level of fame that very soon went well beyond national borders. This recounts the extraordinary stylistic development of this ambitious and determined painter, who made art his reason for living. Skira Editore, 2022. More

LAURIE LIPTON DRAWING
Recommended. Astounding new works by the virtuoso draftswoman Laurie Lipton. Her previous book by Last Gasp sold 3,000 copies before quickly going out of print. Using only pencil and charcoal she draws on canvases that are improbably large, mixing intricate epically complex electronics and mechanical objects with people, even nudes in bondage. She calls her work Techno Rococo, Post Truth, and May You Live in Interesting Times. In these she comments artistically on social media, unchecked consumerism, intellectual decline, environmental catastrophe, and soul-crushing isolation, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Last Gasp, 2022. Mature Readers. More

A CENTURY OF AMERICAN TOYS & GAMES The Story of Pressman Toy
By Jim Pressman and Donna Pressman. When Jack Pressman went into business as a manufacturer of basic playthings like lead soldiers and toy xylophones in 1922, he could scarcely have imagined that his small venture would become one of the iconic American toy companies. The firm scored its first megahit in the 1920s, when it popularized Chinese Checkers, and it went on to introduce enduring favorites like Rummikub and Tri-Ominos. Today the Pressman Toy Corporation remains well known for its line of classic board games in eye-catching red boxes, as well as games based on popular TV shows. Abbeville Press, 2022. More

Robert Williams

INK, BLOOD AND LINSEED OIL The Collective Writings of Artist Robert Williams
66 essays written over 22 years for Juxtapoz Magazine. Recommended. A collection of essays and observations about the art world by artist Robert Williams. With a masterful career spanning decades, Williams has been a part of one of the most influential art movements of the past 60 years, alternative and lowbrow art, as its unofficial leader (and most famous interpreter). Robert details and expounds on his observations of the art world, and its nuances and contradictions. He reflects on the nature of art and being an artist, and the politics, sociology and anthropology surrounding it all. Last Gasp, 2022. More

LOWBROW ART OF ROBT. WILLIAMS
New printing. Recommended. Robert Williams single-handed brought alternative art, now termed "lowbrow art," into the fine arts lexicon, using classic polished techniques to create the strangest, pop-cultured inspired pictures (and comics) ever seen. This was his ground-breaking 1979 book. Williams pursued a career as a fine arts painter before joining the art studio of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth in the mid-1960's. In this position as the famous custom car builder's art director, he moved into the rebellious, anti-war circles of early underground comix, many of which are collected here. Last Gasp, 2022. More

Item Code: LOWRW
Soft Cover, 8x11, 96pg, Partial Color
$24.95
We also have original first printings of this in stock at $65 and $75, the original Zombie Mystery Paintings, and his latest book, Robert Williams: The Father of Exponential Imagination (2019) [ROBWH. $150, $135], and Robert’s fellow "outre" artists: Todd Schorr and Glenn Barr. He’s also examined in Maverix and Lunatix: Icons of Underground Comix [MAVLH. $34.99, $31.99].

Graphic Novels

TOO DEAD TO DIE A Simon Cross Thriller
Highly Recommended. Writer/artist team Marc Guggenheim & Howard Chaykin (Blade, Wolverine) reunites for an all-new original graphic novel that brings classic spy novels to the modern world. In the 1980s, Simon Cross was America's top super spy--very much in the James Bond mode. Today, his past has come back to haunt him, a forgotten lover knocks on his door and is immediately shot before she can tip him off. Suddenly he's out the window and into a formidable car chase--with nasty results for the bad guy. And that's just the first few pages. He's forced to come out of retirement for one final adventure. Very much fast-action Daniel Craig James Bond style. Image Comics, 2022. More

ZAGOR The Lost Mine
Recommended. By Mauro Boselli. Art by Stefano Andreucci. Comanches, Texas Rangers, Comancheros... And a legend of the lost gold mine in the Wichita Mountains. This introduces U.S. readers to Zagor, a long-running western hero with nearly superhero abilities, widely popular in Italian comics. This stands alone or is a prequel to Tex & Zagor: Bandera! Zagor's real name is Patrick Wilding and he is a western-Tarzanesque character living in a deep, wild forest in Pennsylvania in the 1830s. Epicenter Comics, 2022. More

TEX & ZAGOR Bandera
Highly Recommended--superbly drawn. By Mauro Boselli. Art by Alessandro Piccinelli. In the wilderness of Texas Hill Country, the bloody conflict between Comancheros, Comanches and Texas Rangers is looming... The time is right for the two legends, Tex and Zagor to finally meet! Two long-time Italian stars of western comics meet in a beautifully drawn story. Piccinelli really reminds me of Russ Heath; lots of detail, excellent faces with character, good action. The art is so good it just now hit me it's in black and white. It good enough it doesn't need color! This guy is an all-around outstanding artist. Plus a gritty fast-paced story. Epicenter Comics, 2022. More

FROM HOLLYWOOD TO DISNEYLAND
"Neuman's study offers Disney scholars an invaluable missing link between the fantasylands of Disney and those of the Hollywood studios of the Golden Age." Here the author shows the close links between classic Hollywood adventure films and what Disney and his staff created in Disneyland, complete with pictures showing the parallels. This modest softcover volume focuses on the initial planning of Disneyland and its first year of operation, a time when Walt personally oversaw every detail of the park's development. Divided into chapters by park zone, it reveals how the five sectors were constructed using illusionistic tricks of stage design. McFarland, 2022. More

JOHN SINGER SARGENT Masterpiece Edition
Recommended. By Carter Ratcliff. In the early work of John Singer Sargent (1856-1925), Henry James saw "the slightly " uncanny spectacle of a talent which on the threshold of its career has nothing more to learn." Sargent's talent, nay, genius was indeed uncanny, sustained with equal intensity through his famed society portraits, like the scandalous Madame X; his full-size showpieces, like The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit; his thousands of watercolors executed en plein air from Venice to Corfu to Maine to Montana; and his ambitious mural decorations for the public monuments of Boston. VINTAGE COMICS LISTED ON MyComicShop.com
It occurred to me that I’ve never mentioned that I have a substantial number of Golden Age, Silver Age and even a few Bronze Age comics consigned to MyComicShop.com, also known as Lone Star Comics. I occasionally buy comic collections and handle estates and I’m working through two major ones right now, and I upgrade my own collection copies and sell my duplicates there.

You can browse through just my listings on the link here, or do searches throughout the site. They strictly grade each comic, and I mean STRICTLY, scan the cover, and have them in their stock in Arlington, Texas. If you see something you want, order it from that website, NOT from me. I also buy comics from them and their service is top notch, none better. Buddy Saunders started Lone Star Comics in the early 60s--he's been in the business even longer than I have.
