DR. WERTHLESS THE MAN WHO STUDIED MURDER
Recommended. By Harold Schechter. Art by Eric Powell. Acclaimed true crime author Harold Schechter and multiple Eisner award winning cartoonist Eric Powell (The Goon) present a graphic novel that takes an unbiased look at this flawed and complex man whose obsessive dream of freeing the world from violence nearly murdered the comics industry. Dr. Fredric Wertham: reviled by comic book fans as a witch-hunting zealot who stirred up a panic among American parents for his own self-promoting purposes, he was also a renowned psychiatrist who, among other accomplishments, opened a clinic in Harlem for disadvantaged African-American patients and played an important role in the desegregation of the nation’s schools. And along with a wanted convict, he's sent back to the Roman era. Boy does he shed life threatening situations like water! ADVENTURE OF BLAKE & MORTIMER The Complete Collection Volume 3
Recommended. By Edgar P. Jacobs. The two stories contained in this third volume are firmly within the realm of science-fiction. AndThe two stories contained in this third volume are firmly within the realm of science-fiction. And yet, Atlantis Mystery, with its prehistoric monsters, futuristic machines and subterranean lost civilizations, stands in stark contrast with S.O.S. Meteors, where the action takes place entirely within Paris and the surrounding countryside. A falsely mundane environment demonstrates Jacobs's ability to summon adventure anywhere! ZAGOR THE FOREST OF CROSSED DESTINIES Signature Edition
Highly Recommended. By Giorgio Giusfredi. Art by Alessandro Piccinelli. Amazing artwork that reminds us of Joe Kubert and Burne Hogarth — beautifully inked and dynamic! Zagor's search for his good friend Rochas, along with Lord Fraser's expedition to find the Northwest Passage, takes him on a thrilling and epic journey across the icy expanse of the North Pole. Taschen XXL editions now in $80 oversized format:

MARVEL COMICS LIBRARY FANTASTIC FOUR 1961-1963
New slightly smaller edition of the Taschen XXL collection. Collects Fantastic Four #1-20, 1961-63. Our Highest Recommendation. Some of the most iconic moments in Marvel history are here, starting with Reed Richards, his girlfriend Sue Storm, his best friend Ben Grimm, and her little brother Johnny Storm crash landing their rocket after it has been hit by cosmic rays and discovering they have been transformed into Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Girl, the Thing, and the Human Torch in issue No. 1. They were emotionally complex characters, who weren't always sure whether their powers were a benefit or burden. Stories were set in New York City, not some fictional stand-in, and Marvel heroes regularly crossed over into each other's books. The art was dynamic and the writing conversational and engaging. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were like the Lennon and McCartney of comic books. Where the talents of one ended and the other began was not always clear, but together one plus one equaled three. Collected here are the first 20 issues reproduced from the most pristine, pedigreed original comics, which were cracked open and photographed in close collaboration with Marvel and the Certified Guaranty Company. Taschen's huge XL edition is now reduced in size but with all the same features inside, for $80. First in a new series of $80 editions. This big, thick volume features the first 21 stories of the world’s favorite web slinger from 1962–1964. Rather than recolor the original artwork (as has been done in previous decades’ reprints of classic comics), Taschen has attempted to create an ideal representation of these books as they were produced at the time of publication. The most pristine pedigreed comics have been cracked open and photographed for reproduction in close collaboration with Marvel and the Certified Guaranty Company. Bud’s Retirement

Thanks to many who have reached out with well wishes. If I have my way, the business will continue under new ownership, but how that comes about is to be seen. The good news is we are in discussion with someone in the industry with the right experience...

If you haven’t read the whole story yet, here it is posted on our website.

Horror from the Crypt of Fear #18

This is printed and we should have it by next week. Meanwhile, it looks like #17, the EC Checklist, is no longer available from the publisher. We have three copies left as I write this. #15 is still on sale at $17.50, $10.00, and #14 remains in stock at $15.

Wolverton Classic Sci-Fi Vol 9

The hardcover Volume 9 sold out last week, and the publisher lost our order for the softcovers. So, we’ll have both here in a few weeks. On the bright side, we’re not sure if Diamond’s comic stores will be seeing these and future releases.

Diamond Comics Update

The list of publishers pulling out of Diamond is getting longer and there are bound to be instances of new products not getting into every outlet they should. Fantagraphics and Dynamite are the latest to stop shipping new items to Diamond due to lack of payment. We’re direct with Fantagraphics so that is not an issue for us, as it is on several other publishers in transit. We’re working on getting Dynamite and the remaining short list of Diamond exclusive publishers from other sources, including Lunar.

We’ve been told Diamond Comics Previews will go digital only with the next issue. However, the word is that the new owners of Diamond are not paying ANY bills whatsoever, and are now using a legal loophole to sell off the publisher inventory that they do not own, that is on consignment from the publishers. Further research has it that the company who bought this has done this before, purchased a company and then sucked it dry while not paying the suppliers. It’s not sounding at all good for Diamond staying in this business. Lunar, Random House, Ingram and other large and financially sound book distributors are now handling all the major publishers once with Diamond, from DC and Marvel to Dynamite and Fantagraphics, two of the latest to pull their listings from Previews.
