Wally Wood Complete Galaxy Illustrations, Prince Valiant 13, James Bond, Neil Gaiman’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, Doc Deluxe and The Shadow, Warehouse Finds: Wrightson, Bettie Page

Roger Hill’s Wood Galaxy Illustrations receives my Highest Recommendation. Just when you thought you’d seen most of Woody’s work, here’s some of the best—and rarest. Prince Val and son Arn trot off to England and the Middle East, and meet a raven-haired beauty from the desert in 1961-62 episodes. Neil Gaiman’s Locus Award-winning story is adapted into a fun graphic novel, and it’s NOTHING like you’d expect from the title. Denny O’Neil’s Fritz Leiber adaptation from the 1970s is finally collected in Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, drawn by Chaykin and Simonson. And we’ve got some unusual warehouse finds, all in very limited supply.

WALLY WOOD GALAXY ART AND BEYOND -- Our Highest Recommendation. By Roger Hill. After EC's demise in 1955, Wood segued into the field of science fiction pulp illustration, providing over 200 beautiful drawings and color cover paintings for magazines like Galaxy and for specialty book publishers. Wood left behind a legacy of great art, much of which has never been reprinted. This book features them all! Roger Hill (EC Fan Addict) has spent the past twenty years pulling together the history of Wood’s involvement with the pulp digests and tracking down original art for this project.....More.

Don’t be shy about reserving your copy now for the September release. This is Fantagraphic’s first “Artist’s Edition” and I would not be terribly surprised if they underprint it and it sells out, like their Witzend set and other specialty projects of theirs. IDW underprinted on THEIR early Artist’s Editions, such as Will Eisner Spirit and Wally Wood EC Stories. Be warned. Your credit card will not be charged for this until the day that it ships to you—our standard policy on all backorders and coming items.

Prince Valiant Volume 1 has gone of print and we have none left, but Fantagraphics has announced a new printing in September [PV01H. $29.99, Your price $27.95]

Meanwhile, volumes 2-12 are all available. Volumes 3-5 are still just $29.95, your price $23.99; volumes 2 (new printing) and 6-12 are $35, your price $27.95. See our website for these.

Two collectible warehouse finds this week, both early Bettie Page items from the 1990s: Betty Page Queen of Pin-Up (this was before her name was changed to Bettie, her preferred spelling), a very early book from Taschen. It has a rare section of COLOR photos, and also full nudes. And a portfolio, Betty Page Raw and Exposed, featuring full nude, large-sized plates, from Bunny Yeager’s 1954 shoot in Florida. This is nice, still in shrink-wrap!

And new this week, Girl Meets Girl DVD... Originally released 1974, directed by Joe Sarno. A naive student abroad undergoes a sexual awakening at the home of her elegant, attractive and sophisticated aunt. Beautiful and vulnerable, Bibi desperately yearns to experience the love of other women...one by one, Bibi seduces all of her aunt's beautiful young friends...
