This loving tribute to comics' Master of the Macabre showcases Wrightson's ground breaking work in the DC Comics Mystery books and his legendary artistic turn on Swamp Thing. Both of these are already sold out from our distributor. The publisher has been kind enough to allow us ten more copies of each, in addition to the 3 or 4 of each that we have in stock now, after filling all advance orders. Then apparently these will be out of print and we know of no plans for another edition at this time. |

Paul Dini, the Emmy Award-winning producer of Batman Beyond, joins forces with superstar illustrator Alex Ross to create six original graphic novels starring The World's Greatest Superheroes! Beautifully painted and meticulously true to character! Years out of print, these six stories are now collected in a massive oversize absolute edition: Superman: Peace on Earth, Batman: War on Crime, Shazam!: Power of Hope, Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth, JLA: Secret Origins and JLA: Liberty and Justice. AQUAMAN The Atlantis Chronicles Collects #1-7, 1990-91. Recommended. By Peter David. Art by Esteban Maroto. Eisner Award-winning author Peter David gives us an entirely new and epic history of not only one of DC's most iconic characters, but also of the mythical Atlantis. The Atlantean society had been shrouded in mystery, with readers barely aware of its existence--until Aquaman came along. Atlantis had been beneath the surface of the ocean for thousands of years. Discover that secret history, discover why Atlantis sank, and far more. All beautifully drawn by one of Vampirella's and the Warren's magazines finest artists, Spanish creator Esteban Maroto. DC, 2017...More. Item Code: AQAH Hard Cover, 6x8, 344pg, Full Color |
I hesitated ordering this since Aquaman has always been a second tier character in the DC Universe. But with the JLA film coming with him in it, and the surprising fact it was drawn by Maroto (I missed the comics when they first came out), I brought some in. And I'm glad I did, this is very impressive from an art standpoint, and seems very stand-alone so you can enjoy it as a totally independent series. Plus Peter David is one of the best writers in comics, so I expect the story may just be as good as it looks to be. Check it out. |
TWO-FACE CELEBRATION OF 75 YEARS Recommended. By Bill Finger et al. Art by Bob Kane, Dick Sprang, Jim Aparo, Neal Adams, Bruce Timm et al. Part man and part monster, Two-Face has been one of Batman's most fearsome villains for more than 75 years! He's an essential part of the Dark Knight's rogues gallery, but unlike the Joker, Scarecrow or Bane, Two-Face alone has some good left inside his soul fighting his evil persona—half the time, anyway. Chaos or order. Life or death. Tragic fallen attorney or scar-faced fiend. It all depends on how the coin falls... From his first appearance in 1942, with five pre-code stories plus 11 more, the best of Two-Face. DC, 2017...More. Item Code: TF75H Hard Cover, 7x10, 384pg, Full Color |
Still available at the same discounted price is A Celebration of 75 Years of: Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Catwoman. On sale from $19.99 to $24.99 are Lex Luthor, The Flash, Robin The Boy Wonder, Superman, and The Joker. Quantities are VERY limited, several other titles now sold out from our last sale. |

EC ARCHIVES ACES HIGH Collects #1-5, 1955. Highly Recommended. Art by Jack Davis, Bernie Krigstein, George Evans and Wally Wood. This new trend title combined the best of Kurtzman's Two Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat, with the same wonderful stories and the same superlative artists. This was EC's last-ditch effort to publish comics acceptable under the new comics code. And, of course, these are all aerial combat stories, leading off each issue with a cover by George Evans, who inside gives us WWI bi-plane stories with spot-on accurate details. Also here, with work in virtually every issue, are Wally Wood, Jack Davis, and Bernie Krigstein. Great, great work! Dark Horse, 2017...More. Item Code: ECAAHH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 8x11, 168pg, Full Color |
The most recent new title, Incredible Science Fiction, unexpectedly went out of print. We've been told they are keeping their print runs pretty tight, so be aware all these Dark Horse Archives may go OP without any warning. And such a good one, too, like this one. |
VALERIAN AND LAURELINE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES Book 18-Original edition 2001. Highly Recommended. By Pierre Christin. Art by J.C. Mézières. The (false?) gods of Hypsis are once again interfering with Human history. Tired of their lower status among their peers, the trinity in charge of planet Earth opens communications with megacorporation Vivaxis at the end of the 20th century – an occurrence Valerian and Laureline's allies report to the two ex-agents. But to what end did the Hypsians initiate such a contact? And who is the mysterious Sat who, from the depths of Point Central, also endeavours to meddle with Human affairs? Cinebook, 2017...More. Item Code: VINUN Soft Cover, 8x11, 64pg, Full Color $15.95 |
Another new title on the path to bringing all 22 of the graphic novels back into print. See the first three combined hardcover volumes, and several more softcovers on our website. I love these, they are great fun. |
DIE KITTY DIE HOLLYWOOD OR BUST Signed Signed by both artists! Recommended. By Fernando Ruiz and Dan Parent. Kitty Ravencraft, the beautiful, magical witch and star of her own comic book, returns! Naturally, Kitty's publisher wants to capitalize on her newfound popularity with a big budget blockbuster Kitty movie! MAN FROM THE GREAT NORTH By Hugo Pratt. Hugo Pratt, hailed as the “inventor of the literary comic strip,” offers a provocative story whose protagonist is a seemingly wanton murderer, driven by a religious obsession. This is the story of Jesuit Joe, a lone traveler of French-Canadian and Mohawk descent. In northern Canada, circa 1920, he wanders the icy wastes. He wears the red jacket of the Canadian Mounties that he found in a hut—which gives rise to a series of misunderstandings when he is mistaken for a member of the Mounted Police. First English-language edition. IDW, 2017. Mature Readers...More. Item Code: MANGH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 8x11, 104pg, Full Color |
Also by Pratt we have Corto Maltese Volumes 1-6, Indian Summer, and he's in various volumes of the Milo Manara Library which feature his collaborations with Manara. |
BETTIE PAGE 4 Set Set of three variant covers--interior is the same. Recommended. By David Avallone. Interior art by Colton Worley. Variant covers by Scott Chantler and Joseph Michael Linsner, and a photo cover of Bettie herself. Someone wants to enslave American minds... but who's behind it all? The Sky Science Cult? Pacific AeroSpace Technologies? Ol' Joe Stalin himself? None of them is a match for Bettie Page, as our high-heeled heroine goes toe-to-toe with the worst 1951 has to offer in the fourth and final Hollywood chapter, but not the end of the series, of The Secret Diary of Bettie Page. Dynamite, 2017...More. Item Code: BP04P Soft Cover, 7x10, 32pg ea, Full Color $11.99 |

ART OF TIKI Recommended. By Sven Kirsten and Otto von Stroheim. Introduction by Shag. A passionate study of the Tiki idol as an art form and pop culture. For the first time, contemporary and 1970s Tiki art is presented equally with what inspired it, beginning in the mid-1950s. The current revival was led by artists including Mark Ryden, Ken Ruzic, Mary Fleener, Mookie Sato and Shag--their post-2000s work and much more is covered. Author Sven Kirsten offers first-hand experiences in exploring the birth of Tiki style with intimate knowledge of the Tiki Revival, painting a vivid, visually arresting portrait of a unique genre. FATALES The Art of Ryan Heshka Art by Ryan Heshka. Inspired by nostalgia for the old science fiction pulp art and superheroes of the golden-age, Ryan Heshka is recognized in the US and internationally for building an impressive singular work where giant robots compete with mean girls. Monitoring and cheered by a large fan base, here is the first monograph of his incredible and unique work. Some nudity. Demon girls in masks, femme fatales, naked threatened good girls and naked bad girls abound in this very strong homage to super hero and sci-fi pop culture. Cernunnos, 2017. Mature Readers...More. COMIC SHOP The Retail Mavericks Who Gave Us A New Geek Culture Signed Signed by Bud! Highly Recommended. By Dan Gearino. The early 1970s saw the birth of the modern comic book shop. Its unprecedented growth to thousand of stores was due in large part to a dynamic entrepreneur, Phil Seuling. His direct market model allowed shops to get comics straight from the publishers, bypassing middlemen. Stores could better customize their offerings and independent publishers could now access national distribution. And it opened up a space for quirky ideas to gain an audience and helped transform small-press series, from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Bone, into media giants. Swallow, 2017...More. Item Code: COMSHO Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 6x9, 252pg, Text/b&w $26.95 |
I was tempted to lead off this week with this—I think it's a fascinating book. But then I'm biased because I play a somewhat major part in the story. So in all humility, I'm listing it here. With the first 15 copies we sell we will include a slick 6x9 full color promotional card that we handed out at Comic-Con in July. I am signing and dating all copies. Full disclosure: I have two pictures, one contemporary and one from the early seventies in the book, and 21 entries in the index. Nuff said. |
WONDER WOMAN Ambassador of Truth Recommended. By Signe Bergstrom. A gorgeous, authorized celebration of Wonder Woman. This chronicles her life and times, from origin and founding member of the Justice Society in the Golden Age, to her evolution in television and film. Brings together a breathtaking collage of images—from the DC comic books, the 1970s-era television show starring Lynda Carter, numerous animated appearances, and of course, the 2017 film with Gal Gadot. Lush full-color compendium with cool inserts and exclusive interactives, illuminating interviews and anecdotes from key artists, writers, and personalities. All wapped in a wearable golden tiara! Harper, 2017...More. Item Code: WWAMBH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 176pg, Text/Full Color |

THE HARVEY COMICS COMPANION Hardcover Highly Recommended. By Mark Arnold. Harvey Comics -- the name conjures up images of characters such as Casper and Richie Rich. But the Harvey story was much, much more. A company started by Alfred Harvey in 1941 with titles like Pocket Comics and The Green Hornet, Speed and Champ, and characters like The Black Cat (her sexy early days foreshadow The Phantom Lady), Dick Tracy, The Phantom and Joe Palooka. And Teenage Dope Slaves, Chamber of Chills, Tomb of Terror...Harvey went from popular super heroes to popular strip reprints to competing head-on with EC horror...and then on to kids comics, the super-hero revival in the sixties, and into the 1990s. 707 amazing pages. BearManor Media, 2017...More. Item Code: HARVCH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 6x9, 708pg, b&w $49.00 |
We listed the softcover last week but forgot to mention the hardcover, which arrived just a couple days later. I've redone my description as I am making my way through this, enjoying it a great deal. There's a LOT on pre-code Harvey, just in case you have the impression it's all about Casper and Richie Rich. It's much, much richer than that, detailing every character and book, as well as the Harvey family and the creators. |

SILVER AGE CLASSICS Out of This World Volume 2 Collects #7-10, 1958. Recommended. Art by Steve Ditko, Maurice Whitman, Fed Kida, Sal Trapani et al. In the post-EC days of the mid-to-late 1950's and early ‘60's, there was really only one place to go for your SF fix when you'd exhausted DC's output for that month—Out of This World, which would of course become synonymous with the work of Steve Ditko. It might seem a poor man's EC, but led by wonderful covers and lots of stories by Ditko, today this is a stand-out title. Addtional artists include Bill Molno, Charles Nicholas, Dick Malmgren, Rocco Mastroserio, Paul Reinman and Gene Colan. PS Artbooks, 2017. Due Jan. ...More. PRE-CODE CLASSICS Adventures into Darkness Volume 2 Collects #10-14, 1953-54. Final volume. Recommended. By George Roussos, Art Saaf, John Celardo, Nick Cardy, Alex Toth, Mike Sekowsky et al. The covers alone in this baby are worth the price of admission, by George Roussos and DC mainstay Mike Sekowsky, doing his best imitation of Alex Toth! And his best was very good, as also shown on several of his stories here. Also in these issues, two stories by Jack Katz, a lingerie panel, and a cannibalism story cited by T.E. Murphy's anti-comics articles. And work by John Fawcette (Planet Comics and Avon regular) and the other artists mentioned above. Way above average pre-code stories. PS Artbooks, 2017.
