MICHAEL T. GILBERT'S THE COMPLETE WRAITH! Signed
Signed full color Mr. Monster Bookplate. Highly Recommended. The Wraith was a cult classic during the early days of indie comics in the 1970s, and a training ground for Michael T. Gilbert's later work on Elric and Mr. Monster. Created as spoof of Will Eisner's Spirit, Wraith fans included Eisner himself. He wrote "The Wraith has a lot of originality. Your style and approach are very vigorous!" The Wraith appeared in all six issues of Star*Reach's Quack! Here is every story, scanned from the original art, plus a wealth of unpublished art and photos, and an intro by Mr. Monster himself! Gilbert's commentary provides a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the 1970s comic book scene. Clover Press, 2020...More.

Golden is renowned for his design skills and unique interpretation of Batman and other heroes, as seen in these early stories, written by well-known comics writers including Dennis O'Neil, Gerry Conway and Mike W. Barr. I would compare his work to that of Michael Kaluta and Berni Wrightson. It's excellent, and the stories are also very good. DC Comics, 2019...More.

With the aid of more than 500 illustrations and photographs, this shows step-by-step and in great detail all aspects of figure illustration: choosing materials and tools; creating and balancing the line; the principles of growth in plants and animals; the interplay of light and shadow; proportion; action; several chapters on the structure of the figure. This week we have a very offbeat book, Naked Body: An Anthology of Chinese Comics. It's not particularly adult, it's mostly examining breaking Chinese law since drawings of nudes are illegal in China. So the cartoonists had some fun with it.

Final reminder, if you missed our recent special adult section in last week's email. At least half the items we listed are sold--you can see it by clicking here. We still have free adult calendars, one per customer per order, with ANY order. Just click here and pick out the one you want. You don't need to order anything adult to get one, and we still have the non-adult calendar A Song of Fire & Ice by George R.R. Martin.

News and Notes

July 24: New Website and Changes

We're changing our software and our website. The website will be better and more flexible, but as with anything, it might take a little getting used to. In the next catalog, which should be uploadable as you read this, I explain a few changes to expect.

We have one big one that for now we can't do anything about. Currently, if you order an out of stock item or a coming item, we don't charge your card until it actually ships. We will return to this system as soon as possible. But for now, our new system requires that we charge you for the entire order, including backordered or coming items, at the outset. Or you can opt not to backorder them, and wait until they come in. We're trying to bring up a system to contact you in this case but it won't be there at the beginning either.

Until our new system comes online, you can still pre-order or backorder items under our current system, and not be charged until they ship.

Lastly we cannot migrate charge card information over to the new system, since it's encrypted to safeguard you. You'll need to enter your card information again with your first order on the new system.

We will be closed Friday, July 3rd for the holiday.

The Art of Mead Schaeffer is en route, and should be here as a new item next week. The Art of Allen Anderson, from the same publisher, has unexpectedly sold out. It was a good one. Here are their other books that are still available, from Illustrated Press.
