Monsters & Dames 2020 is here, Super Friends and She-Hulk, new Carl Barks and Neil Gaiman plus the Dynamite sale continues...

The irony this week, Monsters & Dames 2020 is here but it was the premium for the cancelled Emerald City Show this past March. We're very pleased they still produced it this year, and it's a good one. We have new Carl Barks in the Uncle Scrooge series, a new Breccia collection, Philip K. Dick, a new American Gods, a new Sorolla art book, Stanley Lau gets a second DC Poster Portfolio. Plus part 2 of the Dynamite sale, news and more.

PERRAMUS The City and Oblivion
By Juan Sasturain. Art by Alberto Breccia. This dark and shadowy graphic novel follows the existential odyssey of a political dissident. When he voluntarily loses his memory, he's dubbed "Perramus" from the brand of his raincoat. During his absurdist travels, he teams up with the gruff Cannelloni; a foreign aviator dubbed "The Enemy;" and the blind author "Borges" (based on the real-life literary figure). This motley crew journeys to outlandish locales and meets wildly eccentric characters -- a director of trailers for films that will never exist; a guerilla band of circus folk, a tin-pot dictator... SENSATIONAL SHE-HULK By John Byrne Omnibus
Marvel Graphic Novel #18, 1985; Sensational She-Hulk #1-8, 31-46, 48-50, 1989-93 + more. Recommended. Byrne's complete adventures are collected in this one giant Omnibus. Jennifer Walters smashes the glass ceiling -- and the fourth wall -- in hilarious fashion! She's targeted by S.H.I.E.L.D.! Battling Spider-Man! Beheaded! Facing Dr. Bong's wrath! On her own Star Truck! And hosting her own Golden Age guest star! Marvel, 2020...More.

JOAQUIN SOROLLA
The Definitive Monograph on the Spanish Master of Light. Highly Recommended. By Blanca Pons Sorolla. Containing over 300 reproductions of his most important works, Joaquín Sorolla is an essential survey on this popular painter. It includes an in-depth essay by Blanca Pons-Sorolla, as well as an illustrated chronology. This is a brand-new edition of a long unavailable 2005 art book. Starting out as a painter of works intended for the salon and national exhibitions, Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (1863–1923) very soon developed a style of open-air painting of his own which, though not connected stylistically with the Barbizon School, nevertheless pursued the same approach, as a result of which he came to be known as a Spanish impressionist painter. CECIL BEATON'S BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS
Elegance, glamour and style. By Robin Muir. Art by Rex Whistler, photography by Cecil Beaton. In 1920s and ‘30s Britain, Cecil Beaton used his camera and his larger-than-life personality to mingle with that flamboyant and rebellious group of artists, writers, socialites and partygoers who became known as the “Bright Young Things.” Famously fictionalized by the likes of Evelyn Waugh. Themed chapters move from Beaton's earliest sitters to his time at Cambridge and as principle society photographer for Vogue and Vanity Fair--over 50 leading figures who sat for Beaton are profiled with the dazzling parties, pageants and balls. National Portriat Gallery, 2020...More.

Recommended. By Jonny Trunk. Compiled by famed nostalgia enthusiast Jonny Trunk (owner of record label Trunk Records) and with a foreword by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. Crammed with more than 500 examples of British (and many American) candy-wrapper designs from the 1960s to the 1980s: the amazing collection of John Townsend, who collected candy cigarette boxes, wax gum papers, potato-chip bags, soda cans, rock labels, stamps, transfers, coupons, tickets, badges, cards, stickers and much more. EDWARD HOPPER A-Z
By Ulf Küster. The distinctive melancholy found in Edward Hopper's (1882–1967) paintings often leads viewers to wonder about the more intimate details of the artist's life. Where exactly did this master live and work? What influenced him most? Author Ulf Küster pursues these themes, telling us a great deal about the painter and his interests without losing sight of the work itself. Küster takes us through “American landscape,” “Buick,” “Cape Cod,” “Dos Passos,” “Elevated Train,” “Frost,” “Goethe,” “House,” “Illustration” and “Josie” to “Shadow and Sunlight”—and of course the keyword, “Time.” Hatje Cantz, 2020...More.

Bob Arctor is a dealer of the lethally addictive drug Substance D, which he also takes in massive quantities. Fred is the police agent assigned to tail and eventually bust him. What Fred doesn't know is that Substance D gradually splits the user's brain into two distinct, combative entities, and that he is, in fact, in frantic pursuit of himself. Overstreet Price Guide Facimile

We only were able to get five copies of the hardcover version of the Overstreet Price Guide 1st Edition Facimile. We have one left as I write this. The softcover is still available [OVER01. $16.95] and has been surprisingly popular. See what comics were worth in 1970!

Fantastic Paintings of Frazetta Update

We're expected this either at the end of June or the first of July, so it's running about a month late. Orders have been VERY strong for both the Deluxe, with a variant cover and an extra 16 pages [FANPFD. $69.95] and Hardcover [FANPFH. $39.95]. No softcover edition is currently scheduled, but I imagine there will be one eventually...We've had to up our advance orders on both books. Due to a direct shipment from the printer in China to us, we should be first in the U.S. with copies. See our other Frazetta books available now on the website.

Hurt Sale

I usually take these to shows, and fans snap them up, saying "really, where's the problem with this?" But we are very careful not to send out less than perfect, or at least NEAR perfect as-new copies. But with no shows lately, we put together a bunch of our "slightly dinged or bumped" titles, and here is what we still have available right now, 28 titles. Act now, they sell out with no notice.

Out of Print Report

Gone is the Doc Savage James Bama Multi-pack 2 (sets #1 & 3 still available), Complete Crepax 3 & 4 slipcased set (still available individually), and Frazetta Sketchbook 2 SC (still available in a Deluxe slipcased version).
