Green Arrow

GREEN ARROW The Golden Age Omnibus Volume 1
New Printing. Collects More Fun #73-107, World's Finest #7-28, Adventure #103-117, & much more (1941-47). Recommended. By Mort Weisinger, et al. Art by George Papp, Cliff Young, Maurice Del Bourgo et al. For the first time, DC collects the early 1940s tales that introduced the crime-fighting archer known as Green Arrow. In these original adventures, millionaire industrialist Oliver Queen battles crime with the help of his young ward, Speedy, taking on corruption and crime in Star City, including villains like Bull’s-Eye, the Voice, the Skylark and many more. Green Arrow was one of the few DC characters to keep going after the Golden Age of Comics. His longevity was due to the influence of creator Mort Weisinger, who kept him as a back-up feature to the headlining Superboy. DC Comics, 2026....More.

Item Code: GAGA01H
Hard Cover, 7x11, 792pg, Full Color
$100.00 $90.00
The Green Arrow was one of the few characters unaffected by the Comics Code Authority, continuing on unscathed unlike some of his contemporaries. This is a fantastic collection of the original stories that began in More Fun Comics #73 and continued on in World’s Finest and Adventure Comics, still years before Jack Kirby would lend his artistry to the character. Golden Age goodness, to be sure!

SIGNED EDITION
JIM STARLIN'S BREED Omnibus Signed

Item Code: JIMBHS
Hard Cover, 7x11, 550pg, Full Color
$100.00

This is another great series by Jim Starlin, best known for his work at Marvel, including The Infinity Saga. Breed played out on a different level, cosmically speaking. Starting back in 1994, this dark fantasy series began under Malibu’s “Bravura” imprint, and then 18 years later was completed at Image Comics. It was worth the wait. We have a signed edition available, for those that may not be able to track Jim down at a con appearance.

Item Code: NIGHM08
Magazine, 7x10, 68pg, b&w
$22.99
I was really into Warren’s Creepy and Eerie as a young collector, but I also enjoyed the horror mags from Skywald with their “Horror-Mood” tales and Boris Vallejo covers. Nightmare was a personal favorite of mine (being the first of their titles that I discovered), and these PS Artbooks reprints present the full contents of each issue. I’d like to see these collected into a single volume eventually.

BLACK PANTHER: Panther's Prey

New printing. Our Highest Recommendation. 1966-81. By Gardner Fox & Murphy Anderson, Michael Fleisher & Jim Aparo, Neal Adams et al. Originally introduced in 1940 and co-created by Jerry Siegel, co-creator of Superman, the Spectre was a green-caped, white-skinned, all-powerful demi-god who meted out his own version of justice — very grim justice! DC's grim arbiter resurfaced in the 1960s, brought back by the dream-team of Julius Schwartz, Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson in Showcase in 1966, then in The Brave and the Bold, in ten issues of his own title, also by Fox and Anderson, and ultimately returned to the all-powerful 1940s version dark Spectre as reimagined by Fleisher and Aparo in Adventure Comics #431-440. News & Notes

Ownership Change

As a lot of you have most likely heard, Bud's Art Books was recently acquired by industry veteran Bill Schanes (along with his partner in the acquisition, Sasha-Fera Schanes of Pop King Inc.). Bill is the former president and co-owner (with his brother Steve) of the southern California Pacific Comics chain, which also branched out to publishing and distribution (the latter Bill sold to Bud back in 1985). In 1986, Bill moved to Maryland to work for Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. as their VP of Purchasing until his retirement in 2013.

After traveling around the world visiting over 160 different countries, and Comics, Gaming and Specialty Toy shops wherever he went, he returned to the US and set his sights on re-entering the industry, approaching Bud about acquiring the Bud's Art Books business, which Bud himself attempted to sell in 2012, then rebuilt the business from the ground up with new and rehired staff. The deal was worked out and closed fairly quickly by the end of 2025, and as of February 1st, Bud's Art Books is under new management.

As for Bud, he's helping Bill and his writer/editor, Marty Grosser (former Editor of PREVIEWS), acclimate to the "Bud Plant" way, and then he's going to begin his well-deserved retirement. Although he'll consult on the transition of the new Bud's Art Books, Bud plans to focus his attention on his rare books online business, Bud Plant and Hutchison Books, which he runs alongside his partner Anne Hutchison. They already sell rare and exotic out-of-print books - illustrated books, art books, comics related, vintage paperbacks and even old comics their website and at various book shows around the region. We wish them both much success and good times!

Spring Incredible Catalog

Currently we're putting the finishing touches on the Spring 2026 edition of BUD PLANT'S INCREDIBLE CATALOG (#80), with a fun cover by Brian Kesinger.

We'll be mailing this new issue out to current customers in about a month or so. But you'll also be able to download the .PDF version of the catalog several weeks earlier than the print version is available. Look for the download link's release next week.

Comic Book Price Guide

We've heard from our friends at Gemstone Publishing that the long-delayed Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #55 will finally release on February 25th. This volume features a new painted Tarzan cover by Joe Jusko, which honors Joe Kubert's classic Tarzan cover for the 5th Edition of the GUIDE, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of Edgar Rice Burroughs' birth (1875-1975). Volume 5 was also Jusko's first-ever guide purchased! You can order this new edition on our site, available in Softcover (CB55) and Hardcover (CB55H).

Also available will be The BIG! BIG! Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide Vol. 55 (BIG55), featuring a painted cover of Golden Age heroine, LADY LUCK, by John K. Snyder III!

Congratulations to Bud!

Finally, we wanted to congratulate Bud on the recent announcement that he will be inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame! Bud, along with 18 other industry icons, will be honored at this year's Eisner Awards ceremony at Comic Con in San Diego. All we can say is, it's well-deserved, and we couldn't be happier that he's being recognized for his contributions to the industry and the hobby over his long career.

~Marty
