Third in the series celebrating the art of Ron Lesser, this volume features some of his best works in the Western genre. Like the two volumes before it, this one is packed with plenty of examples of why Ron Lesser was one of the greats in illustration. And there's plenty of sketches and photos (including many pics of iconic Doc Savage model, Steve Holland) to reveal Lesser's process. A BRUSH, WITH HISTORY: The Illustrative Art of Sandy Plunkett Signed Signed! By Sandy Plunkett. This museum catalogue is a selection of pieces from the 2025 exhibition of Sandy Plunkett's work held by The Southwest Ohio History Center. In the 35 years that Plunkett has been located in Ohio, he has, if unintentionally, created a visual chronicle of the many non-profits, small businesses, local bands and political scandals that have come and gone from his corner of the Appalachian foothills. Each image is accompanied with anecdotal accounts of the why and wherefore behind each commission, with a peek into his process. Sandy Plunkett is no stranger to comics fans, having illustrated comics for DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, IDW, and many more. What most of us were unaware of was his side gigs, doing illustrations, logos and more in his local community of Athens, Ohio. Plunkett, working with the Southwest Ohio History Center, was recently the subject of an exhibit of his local artworks, and this volume acts as a catalog for the event. In the early '70s, seeking out the local drugstore's comic book spinner rack was a favorite weekly adventure of mine. And many of the titles I was collecting had one thing in common, besides their sci-fi, horror and monster themes: Gil Kane covers! Kane's art was filled with a kinetic energy unlike any other. Even a prone body, their knees drawn up, arms draped to their sides, crackled with knockdown energy. These images often promised more than the interiors were prepared to deliver, but they looked damn cool anyway! I've been an Ultraman fan since the late '60s, when the show made its debut on our shores. I would run home from school every day to watch Ultraman on KTXL Channel 40's "Captain Mitch" afternoon show. I loved it's Godzilla-style monster action and the exploits of the badly dubbed members of the Science Patrol. I still collect Ultraman toys and videos to this day, and was pleasantly surprised when Marvel teamed up with Tsuburaya Productions to bring Ultraman to the Marvel Universe. Not since 1977's Marvel/Toho Godzilla collaboration was I this excited for a comic. If you're of a certain age (I know there's a lot of us out there), then this Omnibus should provide some nostalgic moments and new thrills. ~Marty |

As you may be aware, our founder Bud Plant was recently awarded an Eisner Award and was inducted into their Hall of Fame alongside a storied cast of fellow industry icons. This was Bud's first return to Comic Con in several years, and he has chronicled his week in San Diego with a special report detailing some of his experiences and encounters during this momentous week.
