Marvel Comics Library: Fantastic Four (1961-1963) Collects Fantastic Four #1-20. Essay by Mark Waid. By Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Collected here are the first 20 issues of the series, reproduced from the most pristine, pedigreed original comics available, which were all cracked open and photographed in close collaboration with Marvel and the Certified Guaranty Company. Some of the most iconic moments in Marvel history are here, starting with Reed Richards, his girlfriend Sue Storm, his best friend Ben Grimm, and Sue's younger brother Johnny Storm, crash-landing their rocket after it was bombarded by cosmic rays. They soon learn that they have been transformed by the experience, adopting the heroic titles of "Mr. Fantastic," the "Invisible Girl," "The Thing," and the "Human Torch," respectively. These were emotionally complex characters, who weren’t always sure whether their powers were a benefit or a burden. Super-powered, but human, nonetheless. Taschen, 2026....More. If you're of a certain age, and grew up in the '60s and '70s, chances are you encountered advertising or catalogs for the Frederick's of Hollywood lingerie brand, best known for the development of the push-up bra and their marketing that associated intimate apparel with confidence, glamour, and Hollywood allure. And to promote and sell their wares, they employed many artists and photographers over the years. But one unsung artist's work stood out amongst the others, that of Dorothy Kahn, whose art captured the style and vibe of the era like no other. THE PULPSTER #35 This issue is out of print at the publisher—don't miss it! As part of the 100th anniversary of Amazing Stories, Jeffrey Shanks explores the connections between the first science-fiction pulp, editor Raymond Palmer, the Shaver Mystery, and the birth of the UFO phenomenon, while Tony Davis interviews the magazine’s current editor about guiding it into its second century. The Art of Jerry Ordway Signed SIGNED! Foreword by Mike Carlin. Jerry Ordway is the "artist's artist." One of the definitive architects behind The Death of Superman, the master inker who bound the multiverse together in Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the creative force who gave the world The Power of Shazam! Now, for the first time ever, step inside the studio of an industry titan. This is The Art of Jerry Ordway, a premium, 100-page sketchbook bringing you closer than ever to the raw genius of a master craftsman. New Pain Productions, 2026....More. Item Code: ARTJO Soft Cover, 7x10, 96pg, b&w $49.99 |
Jerry Ordway is another favorite artist of mine, going back to his days at DC Comics on their Superman line. He's responsible for one of my favorite covers for the PREVIEWS catalog, an image of the "returned from the dead" Superman, embossed and featuring both spot varnish and matte surfaces, printed all in black. It was a striking cover for the image alone, the special effects merely enhanced the art. And he went on to so many more hit runs on series like Adventures of Superman, Infinity Inc., and the Batman '89 movie adaptation, among others. This sketchbook (signed by Ordway!) collects some of his finest pages and covers from across his long career, and includes some rare, never-before-seen art as well. Truly an "Artist's Artist," this one should not be missed! ~Marty |

Nightmares of Halloween Past Vintage Photographs from the Collection of Gary Baseman. A photo-filled celebration of Halloween in America from artist Gary Baseman. Recommended. As a child, Halloween was acclaimed artist Gary Baseman’s favorite holiday — an extension of his love of otherworldly monsters and characters on TV and film. In the 1990s, he started his collection of more than 2,000 dark, playful, surreal vintage photographs of people in masks and costumes. Gathered primarily at flea markets, these images, taken by unknown photographers, represent intimate tributes to Halloween and American legacy. This dark "family album" collects over 300 vintage photographs along with 15 of the author’s Halloween-inspired signature paintings. Insight Editions, 2026....More. Item Code: NIGHPH Hard Cover, 8x10, 288pg, b&w |
| Cartoonist and animator Gary Baseman is best known for his fez-wearing cartoon cat named "Toby", seen in many illustrations and as collectible art figures. He's also a big fan of Halloween, and has amassed a collection of over 2000 vintage photos of kids in costumes, most home made, which makes them all the more macabre and disturbing to view. Accompanied by Halloween-themed paintings by Baseman, this collection of mostly B&W photos from a bygone era is a fascinating and entertaining look to the past, that most certainly has a permanent spot in my collection. ~Marty |

| The Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons of the last century are some of the most entertaining animated shorts ever produced. Directed by the likes of Robert McKimson, Friz Freleng, Tex Avery and Chuck Jones, most have continued to be enjoyed by new generations of kids even today. One of the standout directors in the Warner Bros. Cartoon group was Bob Clampett who, from 1931-1946, made over 80 cartoons, and created Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Tweety Bird along the way. Clampett's daughter, Ruth Clampett, tells the story of her father's colorful career (which includes the creation of Beany and Cecil) with help from animation historian Darrell Van Citters. This fond remembrance is truly packed with rare art and photos, and should be in every animation fan's library. Highly Recommended! ~Marty |
