ATLAS AT WAR
My Highest Recommendation.
Art by Russ Heath, John Severin, Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Syd Shores, Don Heck et al. Edited by Michael J. Vassallo. Fifty hard-hitting stories from Atlas, the company that became Marvel Comics. Each one hand-picked by Vassallo, a comics historian and world-renowned authority on Timely/Atlas. Marvel published more war titles than anyone in the industry, between 1951 and 1960, and were strongly influenced, at their best, by Kurtzman's EC stories. If you think EC and DC were the only publishers doing poignant, powerful and well-drawn war stories, read this and have your head turned around. This is good. Dead Reckoning, 2020....More.

Hard Cover, 8x11, Full Color
$65.00 $59.00

A killer new book from Dead Reckoning/Naval Institute. I really like their books, they are entertaining as well as historically accurate. See them all here.

DC GOES TO WAR
Our Highest Recommendation.
By Robert Kanigher, Garth Ennis et al. Art by Joe Kubert, Russ Heath, Alex Toth, John Severin, Jack Kirby et al. In this new collection, DC is recognizing nearly 80 years of comic book war stories beginning with the origin of Blackhawk in Military #1, 1941, Boy Commandos by S&K in 1942, on to the beginnings of Sgt. Rock, the origin of Enemy Ace, The Losers, The Unknown Soldier, the very first Haunted Tank, and my favorite piece, a graphic novel length War in Heaven, bringing Enemy Ace into World War II and reluctant combat to defend his German homeland, beautifully told and illustrated by Ennis and Russ Heath. Powerful stuff, first page to last. DC Comics, 2020....More.

THE 10 CENT WAR: Comic Books, Propaganda, and World War II Recommended. Edited by Trischa Goodnow and James J. Kimble. How different types of comic books and characters supplied reasons and means to support the war effort. The contributors demonstrate that, free of government control, how effective these appeals were, while often racist and extreme. The book discusses the role of such major characters as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Uncle Sam along with a host of such minor characters as kid gangs and superhero sidekicks. It even considers novelty and small presses, providing a well-rounded look at the many ways that comic books served as popular propaganda. University Press of Mississippi, 2016....More.

RESIDENT ALIEN Omnibus Volume 1
Bargain-priced. Now a SYFY original series. Highly Recommended. Collects the original compilation Volumes 1-3 and extras, 2011-2015. By Peter Hogan. Art by Steve Parkhouse. Living undercover as a semi-retired, small-town doctor, a stranded alien's only hope is to stay off humanity's radar until he can be rescued. When he's pulled into a surprising murder mystery by the small town's desperate mayor and struggling police chief, he realizes how bored he has been, and how much he enjoys this. We really like this, I raced through all three graphic novels in this fine collection. Two more GNs are done, I plan to bring them in also. A truly unique sci-fi adventure tale with heart and humor! Dark Horse, 2020....More.

Item Code: RESAL01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 296pg, Full Color

I started this a couple nights ago and could hardly put it down until I finished all three graphic novels it contains. What a great series, different, low-key, well drawn. Good characters. I hope you will check it out. As I mention in the description, there are two more collections (which I will bring in), an ongoing comics series, and this is running now on the SYFY channel.

THE POWER OF SHAZAM! BOOK 1 in the Beginning by Jerry Ordway

Ordway's 1994 CM graphic novel won the Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Award for Favorite Original Graphic Album, and led to the publication of this ongoing Power of Shazam! series, set four years after the graphic novel. New Website Up NOW

Well, we finally launched the new website 24 hours ago, as I write this. And it’s performing well. We just have a steep learning curve here, getting used to the new software. As we mentioned, we will need to get everyone’s credit card information again, just once, since that is encrypted so we could not bring that over from our old system. So you may get a call or email from us.

The new site has no advanced search, but I’m assured the regular search engine is more robust, and so far it’s working okay for me. I hope you find this an improvement. We are still adding functions to the site, so check back often to see the new changes. We welcome any feedback you care to offer, of course.

Other tips about the new site are in our latest catalog, with the Frank Cho/Brandy cover, page 16. Download the catalog with a click, below.

Milo March correction

I incorrectly attributed the covers on this new series to Robert McGinnis. McGinnis drew the covers for the re-released series in the 1970s. But the covers for these are from the 1950s digest appearances, and we don’t know who that illustrator was. He reminds me of Robert Maguire but I can’t seem to confirm who did these.
