TONY DITERLIZZI DUNGEON DRAWINGS II Portfolio Signed
Signed & limited, 100! Highly Recommended. By Tony DiTerlizzi. Self-published by Tony himself in this tiny printing. A return to the days of large-sized portfolios, this offers ten wonderfully fantastic b&w plates. DiTerlizzi has been creating children's books for twenty years and is perhaps best known for his collaboration with writer Holly Black on The Spiderwick Chronicles, which has sold over 20 million copies and became a feature film. Printed on heavy paper, the drawings are mostly from 2019's "Inktober" drawings: cool critters, adventurers, friendly and clearly NOT friendly monsters. Tony DiTerlizzi, 2020...More.

IT'S ALIVE! A VISUAL HISTORY OF FRANKENSTEIN
Recommended. By Elizabeth Campbell Denlinger. Commemorating the two-hundredth anniversary of Frankenstein, trace the origins and impact of Mary Shelley's novel -- a classic of world literature, a masterpiece of horror, and a forerunner of science fiction. Shelley conceived the archetype of the mad scientist who dares to flout the laws of nature. She devised a conflicted creature, eloquent and repulsive, torn between good and evil. In the movies he can be a brute pure and simple, yet he is still an object of compassion. Includes an art gallery with illustrations by Wrightson, Lynd Ward and Barry Moser, comics by Dick Briefer and Ploog, powerful movie posters and much more. Handsome black cloth with silver-embossed cover design. New York Public Library, 2018...More.

AMERICAN DAREDEVIL Comics, Communism and The Battles of Lev Gleason
Highly Recommended. By Brett Dakins. American Daredevil is the story of Lev Gleason, a titan among comic book publishers in 1940s New York who fell victim to two of Cold War America's defining crusades: a nationwide campaign to censor comics, and the paranoia of the Red Scare. Beginning with Silver Streak and the original Daredevil--who like Captain American fought Hitler before the U.S. entered the war -- it was his team, Biro and Wood, who created Crime Does Not Pay. That title outsold every other comic in the 40s, and started the crime trend that eventually resulted in the creation of the Comics Code. CharterHouse, 2019...More.

Item Code: AMERDE

Personally, I really enjoy reading ABOUT comic history, writers and artist, so this rings the bell for me. You'll find more excellent reference books like this on our website.

SILVER STREAK ARCHIVES Volume 1
Back in stock. Collects #6-9, 1941. Highly Recommended. By Jack Cole, Charles Biro et al. As a life-time comics fan, I can hardly convey how pleased I am to see this wonderful material collected. Before Plastic Man, before Crime Does Not Pay, Jack Cole, Charles Biro, Bob Wood, Fred Guardineer and writer Otto Binder created some of the wildest and most fun comics of the Golden Age. Not from DC, not from Marvel--this was an upstart company that became the million-selling publisher of Crime Does Not Pay, Boy Comics, and the original Daredevil. All three titles ran well into the 1950s, long after the majority of Golden Age superheroes were history. Dark Horse, 2012...More.
