Art Books

FRANK FRAZETTA FINE LINES
Our Highest Recommendation. By Sara Frazetta and Arnie Fenner. Frazetta first achieved international prominence with his powerful covers for paperbacks featuring Tarzan, Howard's Conan, and The Death Dealer, but when asked how he was able to create such unforgettable paintings he replied simply, "Drawing is everything." Fine Lines helps to explain why he felt that way with a collection of his most exciting works in pencil, ink, and watercolor. Including many of his influential illustrations from the 1960s and '70s for the fiction of Edgar Rice Burroughs and J.R.R. Tolkien, this beautiful book also features nearly a dozen previously unpublished drawings along with historical essays sharing the stories behind the art. Compiled and edited by Frank's granddaughter Sara Frazetta in collaboration with 2-time World Fantasy Award winner Arnie Fenner, Fine Lines is a celebration of the magical imagination of the Godfather of Fantastic Art. Moderate nudity. Frazetta Girls, 2025. Mature Readers....More.

THE AVENGERS IN THE VERACITY TRAP!
Highly Recommended. Writer Chip Kidd and artist Michael Cho have created a mind-bending, visually sumptuous saga that takes the Avengers — and you, the reader — to places that challenge everything we thought we knew about super heroes and the very nature of heroism . . . villainy . . . and existence. And it's all in a wonderful retro style, like an Avengers Comics from 1963, by Stan and Jack. Complete with pin-up pages! It starts in Asgard, as Loki comes into possession of a weapon of unimaginable power and assembles an army of otherworldly monsters in an effort to carry out his evil plans. Cue the Avengers, Cap, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Giant-Man, and the Wasp — who meet this horrifying throng of beasts head-on. Abrams, 2025....More.

THE BLACK TERROR Volume 2
Collects stories from Exciting Comics #21-32, 1942-44. Highly Recommended. The Nemesis of Crime entirely written by the masterful Richard Hughes! NYOKA THE JUNGLE GIRL Volume 1
Collects #1-4, 1942-46. Recommended. Art by Harry Anderson and Bert Whitman. Nyoka often gets short shrift in collector's eyes — Unlike the other barely clad jungle queens, she wore a dress and was clearly an all-ages title. And even the later art was pretty bland. However...these first four issues are outstanding, with far more Good Girl art and they are drawn by the brilliant Harry Anderson, who later did iconic work at Atlas in the pre-code titles. This is not your ordinary Nyoka...these are fun! And each issue is a full-length, four chapter adventure, very unusual during the Golden Age. PS Artbooks, 2025....More.

Item Code: NYOK01

AIRBOY Volume 2
Collects Vol 3 #6-9, 1946. Recommended. By Carmine Infantino, Fred Kida, Al McWilliams, Tony DiPreta et al. First soaring into action in 1942, Airboy is a young aviator hero co-created by Charles Biro and published by Hillman from 1942 to the 1950s, revived with new adventures in the 1980s & 90s and again in the 2000-teens. Airboy flies a distinctive, bird-shaped aircraft named Birdie, engaging in daring adventures against wartime foes, criminals, and supernatural threats. The backup features are all air-oriented with more flying heroes: The Flying Dutchman, Sky Wolf, The Iron Ace etc. Above average artwork and stories, a fun title. PS Artbooks, 2025....More.

Item Code: MILC09
Soft Cover, 7x10, 180pg, Full Color
$32.99
Here are all previous Military volumes; most or all are in stock as I write this.

I collect all of these, being a long time Blackhawk fan... My favorites remain from #12-21, with the glorious Reed Crandall covers and stories. But they are all good, #1-12 are filled with great features also. - Bud

BILLY THE KID Volume 1
Collects Masked Raider #6-9 and Billy the Kid #9-10, 1957. Recommended. One of Charlton's very best titles from their stable of westerns. For comics he became a hero. He made his first appearance in Masked Raider #6 (February 1957). He took over the title with #9 (November 1957) and ran for another 147 issues, competing with Marvel's western titles and surviving nearly all of them! Regular contributors included writer Joe Gill and artists Maurice Whitman, Dick Giordano, Rocke Mastroserio, Bill Molno, and Charles Nicholas. Collected here: his first five complete issues. PS Artbooks, 2025. ...More.

Item Code: BILK01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color
$32.99
There will also be a hardcover of this; we don’t have copies yet but expect it in our next shipment [BILK01H. $52.99]

SCIENCE FICTION ODYSSEY MAGAZINE #1
From 1971. Highly Recommended. For the first time ever, Skywald's famous, never printed magazine!! This would have been the first adult Sci-Fi comic since EC's Incredible Science Fiction, but the belief of the publishers, Sol Brodsky ("Sky", who was a long time Marvel production person) and Israel Waldman ("Wald"), that SF just didn't sell plus budgetary constraints, meant the magazine was withdrawn, although only after film had been made and just before delivery to the printers! PS Artbooks, 2025....More.

Item Code: SFOM01
Comic, 7x10, 68pg, b&w
$22.99
PS drives us crazy. We only got six copies of the 20 we ordered, so we’re already out as I write this, also. Arghh. We try really hard, but some publishers just don’t have their act together filling our orders!

EERIE COMICS #1 Facsimile Edition
From 1951. Highly Recommended. Prestigious publisher Ziff-Davis pulled out all the stops on this very special issue. The cover painting is by Allen Anderson, well known for his pulp covers for such titles as Planet Stories. Inside we have "Vampires from Venus" by Bob Powell; "The Grim Reaper" by Al Carreno, where an international chess tournament turns into a battle with death; "The Perfect Hideout" by Gerald McCann, best known for his Jules Verne's Off on a Comet in the Classics Illustrated series; "Deadline for Death" by Powell and Howard Nostrand, one of the finest of the Harvey Horror artists. And there's even more! PS Artbooks, 2025....More.

Item Code: EERC01
Comic, 7x10, 36pg, Full Color
$15.99
Eerie clearly could not be trademarked, because publisher Avon also did a 1947 #1 edition [ECM01. $16.99], of which we have just four left. And there’s also a second series from Avon [EERC01D, 02D $104.99 ea.]. And then of course there is Warren’s well-known series of Eerie also!

Moon Girl Bookplate!

Coming at the end of September is the all-new hardcover EC Archive: The Complete Moon Girl. Grant Geissman is once again compiling and editing this collection, and he’s once again making up a bookplate for us. It will be limited. [ECACMH. $59.99, $54.99].

Time’s Last Gift by Philip Jose Farmer

I read this last week. It was a real honest to goodness page turner. Farmer always had a fondness for famous fiction charactes, from Sherlock Holmes to Tarzan and he wrote several books carrying their lives forward. Without giving away too much, let me say that this novel, Time’s Last Gift, should be a must-read for any ERB fan.

I really, really liked it. Not just for the surprise you’ll find, and the incredible twist ending… but also because it's written superbly well. And it’s an amazingly realistic Time Travel story. Packed with real detail about life on Earth 50,000 years ago!

In softcover [TIMLG. $23] and signed deluxe hardcover, signed by all five contributors and limited to 200 [TIMLGH. $65]. We have more on the way of each but I’ll be surprised if the Deluxe edition remains in print much longer, once the word is out.

Update on Retirement/Sale

We have two active, motivated buyers talking to us about taking over and continuing Bud’s Art Books. I can’t say more right now, but it is looking very good that even after I retire, sometime in 2026, you’ll still have Bud’s Art Books to order from!

PS Artbooks

We apologize for the difficulty we are having getting new PS books and keeping them in stock. PS (in England) does not ship our reorders promptly; they leave out items we have ordered; they short our quantities on new items and reorders. This isn’t rocket science, but they sure act like there’s something tough about getting things right. So… we keep doing our best but we’re forced to backorder titles no matter how hard we try to get enough for our first listing, and to keep them in stock at all times after that.

EC Fan Addict #7 Bookplate is here!

As we have mentioned once before — we don’t normally take advance orders for coming items with a low sticker price. But if you order only Fan Addict #7 by itself (or any other similar item not yet listed online and not yet out, by itself)—and pay for shipping, then we can do it. You need to CALL IN your order so our guys can override the system. [ECF07S. $16] Here’s the description that editor Grant Geissman just sent us:

Edited by Grant Geissman and the late Roger Hill, this 120-page issue features a portfolio of pre-EC art by Jack Davis, an interview with the legendary publisher of the 1960s and 1970s prozine (and first-generation EC fan) Bill Spicer, a portfolio of Gary Arlington’s “What If?” EC covers released as part of his 1970s Nickel Library series, an article on collecting Humbug/Harvey Kurtzman-related collectibles, a 1958 interview with Kurtzman conducted by John Benson and Larry Ivie, another installment of “The EC Collector,” an interview with the notorious Dr. Fredric Wertham about his final book, The World of Fanzines: A Special Form of Communication, a vintage 1967 visit with Frank Frazetta, and much more!

ECFA #6 is out of print but we have exactly 23 copies left as I write this. They do have a light bump to one or two corners, else are as new [ECF06S. $16]. The bookplate that went with the first 250 copies sold is gone.
