ATLAS ARTIST EDITION Volume 2 Al Williamson Complete Stories, 1955-60. Our Highest Recommendation. Becoming a professional comics artist in 1948 at the age of 17, by 21 Al Williamson was so well-regarded he was recruited by EC Comics - the absolute peak of the field in the 1950s, and a team rarely challenged since. After the Comics Code forced EC to reduce their business, Williamson found himself at the door of Atlas Comics, the largest employer of freelancers in the field. Across 1955-57 and 1959-60, Williamson would draw 99 stories for Atlas (both solo and with help by "Fleagle Gang" studio cohorts Angelo Torres and Roy Krenkel, plus Gray Morrow and Ralph Mayo) in mostly western and fantasy genres, with a smattering of war, romance and "jungle girl adventure." Fantagraphics, 2024....More. Item Code: ATLA02H Hard Cover, 10x13, 448pg, Full Color |
ALSO AVAILABLE THE ATLAS ARTIST EDITION Volume 1 Joe Maneely Our Highest Recommendation. A cornucopia, 256 pages, of Maneely’s finest! Marvel (then called Atlas) classics including pre-code horror ("Haunted!", "The Raving Maniac," and the classic "Your Name Is Frankenstein"), space opera (Speed Carter), war (Combat Kelly), Mad-style parodies of Crazy and Riot, cold-war intrigue, the Fu Manchu swipe (Yellow Claw), Westerns (Kid Colt, Black Rider, Ringo Kid, Wyatt Earp, Two-Gun Kid), and Maneely’s pride and joy — his Arthurian champion, The Black Knight. Fantagraphics, 2023. ...More. Item Code: ATLA01H Hard Cover, 10x13, 256pg, Full Color |

AMERICAN COMIC BOOK CHRONICLES 1945-1949 Our Highest Recommendation. By Richard J. Arndt and Kurt F. Mitchell At long last, this 1945-49 volume covers the comic book industry during the aftermath of World War II, when scores of writers and artists returned from foreign battlefields to resume their careers. It was a period when readers began turning away from the escapist entertainment offered by super-heroes in favor of other genres, like the grittier, more brutal crime comics. It was a time when Joe Simon and Jack Kirby created Young Romance, inaugurating a golden age of romance comics. And it was during this five-year period that Timely and National Comics capitalized on the popularity of Westerns, that Bill Gaines plotted a new course for EC Comics in the wake of his father’s death, and that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster first sued for the rights to Superman. TwoMorrows, 2024. ...More. Item Code: ACB08H Hard Cover, 8x11, 288pg, Full Color |
The long-awaited sequel to the first Golden Age volume. We like this series, it’s fun, informative and well illustrated. It goes beyond DC and Timely to cover all the offbeat publishers and titles of the era. |
THE WILD ADVENTURES OF CTHULHU Volume 3 Bonus illustrated Afterword. Recommended. By Will Murray. Cover by Eric Lofgren. Dread Cthulhu is stirring again. Deep in the abyssal zone of the South Pacific Gyre, far from any landmass, the imprisoned Great Old One sends out his telepathic tentacles to stir up trouble in the surface world of insignificant mortals. But this renewed activity does not go unanswered. Cthulhu is not supposed to rise from his underwater crypt until the stars are right. And the stars are not yet right.... Beyond our orderly universe, the Outer Gods take notice...and take action! War erupts among the Great Old Ones and the Ultimate Gods. A cosmic conflict that culminates in the return of the omni-malevolent Outer Kraken, Khalk'ru, who seeks to break through into our sane reality in order to meet this rising challenge. All Khalk'ru requires is a pliable human capable of opening up the gate. Whether willing or unwilling does not matter.... A clash of unholy Titans takes shape. Who triumphs may not matter. The ultimate question is: Will mankind survive....? Odyssey, 2024....More. Item Code: WILADC03H Hard Cover, 6x9, 298pg, Text/b&w $65.00 |

WOMAN & MAN+ Signed Signed bookplate! Recommended. Woman & Man is a wildly surreal autobiographical telling of its artist, publisher, editor Craig Yoe, losing his love, his country, and, some say, his sanity — and his struggle to reinvent himself. His passion for drawing comics was sidetracked for over a half a century by a career as a creative director for Jim Henson and the Muppets, Disney, Nickelodeon, and MTV. Coming back to his roots, he now dives deep into sex, horror, and drama, with a hint of humor and a whiff of hope. Clover Press, 2024. Mature Readers. ...More. Item Code: WOMMAH Hard Cover, 7x10, 168pg, b&w |
PAUL SMITH'S UNCANNY X-MEN Artist's Edition Recommended. A veritable cornucopia of classic Paul Smith's original black and white X-Men art has been scanned at high resolution in color to capture every nuance. Printed at 100% size as drawn on the original boards, a massive 12 x 17 inches. The only better way to see Smith’s original art would be to hold it in your own hands. Handsome, dynamic work. IDW, 2024. Rush Service and International shipping could require an additional charge....More. Item Code: PAUSUH Hard Cover, 12x17, 204pg, b&w $150.00 |
MOEBIUS By Nicolas Labarre. Jean Giraud (1938-2012) started drawing comics in the late 1950s for a variety of French comics magazines. Under his real name, he found success in 1963 with the western series Blueberry, written by Jean-Michel Charlier and published in Pilote magazine. In the 1970s, he started producing science fiction works under the name of Moebius. This first book-length, English-language study of Moebius finally brings international attention to an artist whose influence on the medium was profound and immediate, making him a role model for aspiring comics creators throughout his career. University Press of Mississippi, 2025....More. Item Code: MOEBS Soft Cover, 5x8, 144pg, Partial Color $20.00 |

COMIC BOOK CREATOR #37 Steve Englehart Highly Recommended. Edited by Jon B. Cooke. Steve Englehart receives a career-spanning interview, with emphasis on his glorious ‘70s work as top comics writer. Plus, with the help of former DC Comics' romance editor Barbara Friedlander, we redeem the once sullied name of her mentor, the late, great DC editor Jack Miller, whose career was bought to an ignominious end by company management while he suffered a fatal malady. Also, Dan Didio shares about his entry as DC exec to become the company’s co-publisher in the second portion of Greg Biga's interview. The 100th birthday celebration for Arnold Drake with an amazing conversation examining his creation of The Doom Patrol and work on The X-Men. TwoMorrows, 2025....More. CRYPTOLOGY #2 Highly Recommended. Twomorrow's newest magazine — now devoted to horror in comics and cinema — is back with Roger Hill’s conversation with diabolical horror (and superhero) comics artist Don Heck! Then, Steven Kronenberg breaks down his favorite severed hand films! Barry Forshaw brings back the otherworldly horrors of Hammer’s Quatermass, while Tim Leese spends more Hammer Time on that studio’s output. Then, editor Peter Normanton prepares a viewing of horror-inspired covers from the Shadow’s own 1940s comic book, with plenty by the master Bob Powell! TwoMorrows, 2025....More. Item Code: CRY02 Magazine, 8x11, 84pg, Full Color $10.95 |
ALSO AVAILABLE CRYPTOLOGY #1 Editor Peter Normanton has exhumed the worst Horror Comics excesses of the 1950s: Killer “B” movies to die for, Fall of the House of Usher, skirmishes between the Addams Family and The Munsters, with Warren magazine frontispieces by this issue’s cover artist Bernie Wrightson, Hammer Time's film review, and Atlas' pre-code covers. TwoMorrows, 2024....More. Item Code: CRY01 Magazine, 8x11, 84pg, Partial Color $10.95 |

DC FINEST SUPERGIRL The Girl of Steel Collects Action #252-288 and 11 more appearances, 1959 on. Highly Recommended. By Otto Binder and Jerry Siegel. Art by Jim Mooney, Curt Swan et al. The Girl of Steel is, next to Superboy, one of the most enjoyable and readable spin-offs from the Superman titles. For many years, she grew up hiding her existence from the world, as she went to school and grew up. So her mostly stand-alone adventures end up today being fun and readable, not enmeshed in the rest of the DC universe. Artist Jim Mooney was also terrific on the stories, offering us a sometimes bewildered teen-age girl living always under the shadow of her mightier cousin. DC Comics, 2025. ...More. THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN Volume 1 Alex Horley Cover Collects The (new) Savage Sword of Conan #1-3, 2024. Recommended. This collects, into an impressively thick new graphic novel, the new Conan epic from John Arcudi and Max Von Fafner. Plus the welcome return of Robert E. Howard's other fascinating character, the battle-hardened Puritan swordsman, Solomon Kane —written and drawn by Patch Zircher . Also: a prose story from Jim Zub, art pin-ups, and more, everything in very well-done black and white, like the original Savage Sword of Conan was in the Marvel magazines. Titan, 2024....More. |

THE SWAMP THING By Mark Millar and Phil Hester Omnibus Collects #140-171, 1994-96. New introduction by Hester. New afterword by Millar. Before Mark Millar was the superstar writer behind films like Kick-Ass, Wanted, and Kingsman, some of his first high-profile work in comics was more than 30 issues of DC/Vertigo’s Swamp Thing, following the seminal work of writers like Alan Moore and Nancy A. Collins. Millar was joined by Phil Hester, one of the most celebrated artists in comics, also at an early point in his career. Hester subsequently gained renown for his work on Green Arrow, Firebreather, The Irredeemable Ant-Man, and more. DC Comics, 2024....More. Item Code: SWAMTH Hard Cover, 7x11, 896pg, Full Color |
BILLI 99 With José Villarrubia and Sarah Byam. Set in 1999, Billi 99 embodies a cautionary tale in which corporate greed and corrupt government affected an America very much like our own today. With that, they posed the question, what is power when everything has been taken away? 200 pages of breathtaking, lovingly painted, duo-shade art, with the hand lettering that would become Tim's official font. Nominated for three Eisner awards! Clover Press, 2024. ...More. Item Code: BILLIH Hard Cover, 7x11, 232pg, Full Color |

DOCTOR STRANGE Master of the Mystic Arts Omnibus Volume 1 Frank Brunner Doctor Strange & Clea Cover. Collects Doctor Strange #1-22, Annual #1, and more, 1972-77. When Doctor Strange’s first solo series ended, there was little doubt that the Master of the Mystic Arts would soon return. That moment arrived in Marvel Premiere where hot new art talents illustrated tales tinged with Lovecraftian horror. Then, writer Steve Englehart and artist Frank Brunner brought Doctor Strange to new heights of cosmic consciousness and other-dimensional adventure. Brunner’s mixed a deliriously lush line with psychedelic stylings, while Englehart’s scripting plumbed the depths of Strange’s soul. Diamond Comics Distributors Declares Chapter 11 Bankruptcy A seismic event has occurred in our industry. Diamond is in financial trouble and is reorganizing their debt and hoping to come out of it whole and still operating. Some parts of the company may be sold, such as Alliance Games and Diamond U.K. They also have a separate toy making division. Meanwhile, this puts many small publishers in jeopardy...they may not get paid for books Diamond has bought, or they may get only a portion of what they are owed. That could drive some of them out of business if they can’t survive the financial hit. Smaller publishers that survive will have to figure out how to reach consumers if they choose to stop shipping to Diamond. We don’t know how this will all shake out. Fortunately, although we do buy some books from Diamond (Dynamite, for example, and Hermes), most of our books come from other sources. We buy Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, IDW, Titan…and so on, all from sources other than Diamond. Many other publishers deal direct with us, such as Flesk, Taschen, Fantagraphics, Twomorrows, PS Artbooks and dozens of others. So I think the effect on us will be minor. Most new books will continue to flow in to us as usual. We don’t yet know what will happen with those few publishers we buy from Diamond—some may start working directly with us. I will keep you informed in these weekly emails.
