The seventh of eight children of a Lebanese family who emigrated to the USA, John Kacere was born on June 23 1920 in Walker, Iowa. The son of a grocer he was drawn to painting very early on and studied at the University of Iowa at the same time as Paul Brach. Like his friend he became a teacher. When his first major exhibition took place in 1954 at the Zabriskie gallery in New York this admirer of Byzantine icons joined abstract expressionism. WILLIAM BOUGUEREAU The Essential Works By Dr Kara Lysandra Ross and Frederick C. Ross.
